The lychee is also called Chinese hazelnut or possibly because of its sweetness “love fruit”. Its home is China, where it is still one of the most sought-after fruits.

The skin of the bright red to brown fruit resembles an eggshell, with a brittle, nubby structure. Removal of the skin reveals the white flesh, which tastes sour-sweet with a hint of nutmeg.
