For the baked apple, wash the apples, core them with a corer, cut them in half horizontally and place them in a baking dish greased with butter and sprinkled with breadcrumbs, cut side up, directly on top of the 4 ginger slices.
Tuck the cloves into the top edges of the apples. In a bowl, mix the remaining ingredients well. Pour this mixture into the apples, sprinkle with cinnamon and top with a knob of butter to finish.
“Roast” in the oven at 170 degrees for about 35-40 minutes.
