For the cola syrup, caramelize the sugar well in a saucepan. Deglaze with water. Simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in citric acid.

Allow sugar syrup to cool. Pluck the tips of the rue shoots and add to the cooled sugar syrup. Cover and let stand for approx. 24 hours.

Strain the brew and heat again. Fill hot into bottles and close immediately. Cover the cola syrup and let it cool slowly.
