Instructions:

For the dampfl put flour in a bowl and form a hollow with a wooden spoon.

Pour a third of the slightly warmed milk into the flour well and crumble the yeast into it, mix with a little flour from the edge and dust the surface a little with flour. Cover and let rest in a warm place until cracks form on the surface.

Melt the butter slightly. Mix the sugar, egg yolks, vanilla sugar, salt, butter and grated lemon zest. Mix this mixture with the dampfl and knead well. Cover and let rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

On a floured work surface, divide the dough into three equal pieces, first round and then roll into a strand of about 40 cm.

Press the three rolls together at one end and then braid into a plait.

Place the Easter plait on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and let it rest, covered, for 20 minutes.

Then brush with the egg yolk and milk mixture and sprinkle with hail sugar.

Bake in the preheated oven at 175 °C for about 30 minutes.
