Cut pumpkin into pieces, soften in a saucepan barely covered with water, drain in a sieve.

Mix salt, eggs, sugar with an electric mixer until creamy. Add anise, orange peel and rum. Grind the cooked pumpkin or pass through a sieve, stir into the egg cream.

Mix flour and baking powder, sift over the pumpkin batter and fold in. Heat some oil in a frying pan. Bake small cakes with 1 tbsp of batter at a time. Add more oil as needed. Drain the cakes on paper towels, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bring to the table.
