For spooky caramel apples, first grease a baking sheet with butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Wash and dry apples. Using a narrow core cutter, cut out the core. Brush and clean tree branches, if possible, and insert into the cut out apples.

Place sugar with food coloring in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Over medium heat, slowly caramelize while stirring.

Once caramel is liquid, carefully dip apples into caramel and turn in it until coated all around. Drain eerie caramel apples over pot, place on prepared baking sheet and let dry.
