For the sugar cookies, place all ingredients in a bowl or on a work surface, mix with your hands and quickly work into a dough. Form dough into rolls, cover with plastic wrap and let rest in the refrigerator for about 2 to 3 hours.

Remove small pieces from the dough rolls using a dough card and twist into thin, elongated sticks with the palm of your hand. (Pretzels, croissants, small Striezel or Ringerl can also be formed as desired). Roll the pastries in sugar or sprinkle with sugar.

Place the sugar cookies on a prepared baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 165 to 175 °C for 10 to 13 minutes under supervision.

Variation: If you want to do something for the appearance and taste variety, then roll the pastries for a change in a mixture of sugar, cinnamon and ground nuts, a mixture of poppy seeds and sugar, in Ovaltine or in a coconut flake-sugar mixture.
